ST. LOUIS GATEWAY POST CARD CLUB
TURNS 35
The Gateway Post Card Club, one of the older clubs in the United States, was founded on January 7, 1974. This year the Club celebrated its 35th anniversary. To help commemorate the event, several Club members updated an extensive checklist of H. H. Bregstone real photo post cards and published it in our quarterly newsletter. Bregstone was a St. Louis photographer who produced quite a few real photo post cards of midwestern sites concentrating primarily in Missouri and Illinois. The original checklist was published in 1985 and it was amazing how many additional post cards had been found in over 20 years. Monthly meetings are held at the Kirkwood Community Center, 111 S. Geyer Rd. in St. Louis, except in July for our annual picnic, September for the show, and December for the holiday party. At our monthly meetings, members begin to arrive at 6:30 p.m. for buying and selling of post cards. A short business meeting starts at 7:30 p.m., followed by a featured program of interest or an occasional auction of post cards. We invite you to attend one of our monthly meetings and consider membership, which is only $10.00 a year and includes your spouse. The membership more than pays for itself with the value received in the picnic, holiday party and most importantly a quality and informative quarterly newsletter. Membership also entitles one to early admission to the annual show. For more information about the Club contact Mary Ellen Bertram at mebertram@sbcglobal.net.
The St. Louis Gateway Post Card Club is hosting its 34th annual show over Labor Day weekend Friday, September 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The show, featuring some 25 dealers, will again be held at the convenient, spacious, and well-lighted VFW Hall at 1234 Vandalia St. (Hwy 159) in Collinsville, IL just east off Interstate 55/70. It is only 15 minutes from the Gateway Arch on the St. Louis riverfront. The Gateway Club Show offers free admission, plus free parking, free appraisals, and attendance prizes. The show continually gets excellent feedback from buyers and dealers. There is delicious food available on site, especially those tasty homemade pies.
Whether you are a veteran collector, a beginner, or just someone who has a few cards, which you would like to know more about, our show is the place for you. We have a good cross-section of knowledgeable dealers with thousands of quality post cards for sale in all price ranges, old to new, and topics from A-Z. You name it and I'm sure you will find it. It's a casual atmosphere where you can browse leisurely to find that perfect card or just learn more about what the exciting hobby of post card collecting is all about.
If you have questions or need more information about the show, please contact our show chairman Tom Snyder at 618-531-4189 or by e-mail at the.snyders@charter.net.

......and a great time was had by all! Details about the Fall (November) Greater Chicago Postcard and Paper show are HERE.

Is The Time Right To Buy? We think it is, we've seen better material coming in for the sales, we've seen buyers coming back in to the shows we attend, we've seen more dealer activity, both buying and selling at the shows. At our April 17,18, Greater Chicago Postcard and Paper Show and Sale we saw nearly a doubling in dealer participation, and an increase in crowd as well. Our November show is filling now. With our goal of broadening the scope of the Greater Chicago show to other paper, and continuing to develop it into national show, we saw vendors bringing not only great postcard stocks from U.S., Europe, Canada, but also documents, trade cards, photos, stereo views, fanatstic art nouveau posters, postal history, almost anything vintage paper of collectible value, and to top it off, a fantastic display of original Wrigley Gum Wrappers, from the very beginnings of the company, a beautiful representation of the purely American icon of marketing and originality, not to mention a wonderful piece of Chicagoland history.
Is The Time Right To Sell? We are currently booking consignments for our Spring 2010 Postcard and Paper Sale, to be held May of 2010. Of particular interest are better collections, specialized material, real photo groupings, best of the best types of material are always welcome and have a place of honor in our sales and catalog. Large stocks, or accumulations are needed as well. Contact me at your convenience to discuss your holdings, we are preparing to make several buying/consigning trips around the U.S. in the next 3 months, and will travel to visit and discuss holdings of size and significance. We will be at the Dallas Metro show Sept 11,12, Joplin MO Oct 11; Wichita International Oct 17,18.
We will also be traveling to Chicago Nov 16,17; York PA, Nov, Orlando FL, Jan; Phoenix AZ Jan 2010.. Call now for an appointment.

It's official! Our state-of-the-art live auction system is up an running, and was activated for the May 2009 sale. The innovative, incredibly fast system - which we've named Knight Live - will allow you to bid in real-time on any of our auctions from the comfort of your home computer or laptop. There is no need to download any software: Just use your favorite browser - including Internet Explorer, Safari or Firefox - to access the auctions as they occur. The Knight Live system will display each lot in simultaneous time as the live floor auction and allow users to bid on the current lot and also leave proxy bids on future lots in the auction. For Knight Live's debut, we held our first live "soft opening" auction on Monday, February 16th. The auction featured World Bank Notes, Large and Small Size Type Notes, Nationals and Postcards, including linens and printed postcards from the Curt Teich archives in addition to real photo postcards and specialized cards. Since then our large CPMX auction in Chicago(Currency Auction) was also carried on Knight Live, with great success. We brought this new techonology to postcards in our May postcard sale, with great success. This is the future of Live Internet Bidding! Join us.
For our Oct 2009 Postcard and Paper Auction, Knight Live will be in full swing, give it a try.

Hello!
I am always looking for cards of my two favorite towns: Panama City, FL and St. Andrews, FL (a/k/a Saint Andrew, FL). I like all views and eras, but of course the older cards are most desirable! Also, a steamer ship called the Tarpon (which used to sail between Pensacola and Panama City) is another interest of mine. If you have any of these, please let me know and if you don't have any right now, I hope you'll keep me in mind in the future! Thanks so much!
