Editors' Note: Many collectors and dealers from around the county converged on the Lake County Discovery Museum Wauconda, IL, this month for a postcard FIRST.....Susan Nicholson and the Museum produced a fantastic postcard show, including tours of the postcard museum, and the Curt Teich Archive. All those wonderful linen era postcards make for a terrific way to spend your postcard time, and the dealer group at the show and sale included 20 dealers from both Coasts and lots of places in between, a very diverse group with great material. I would like to thank Katherine Hamilton Smith and the museum staff for a great time, and a special thanks to Susan for making it all happen. We hope this all comes together again next summer, and becomes an annual event. What better way to promote our hobby, than to meet once a year at this great postcard exhibit and museum. ....thanks...Jim Taylor, CourthouseSquare.net

Below is our Feature Article by noted postcard author and authority Susan Brown Nicholson. Susan has been featured in all the major postcard collecting press, as well as on national TV. Her company, Greater Chicago Productions, produces postcard shows in Chicago, IL, and Des Moines IA. The author can be reached by email by clicking here Deltiology@aol.com

Men's Fashions

By Susan Brown Nicholson

Custom clothes for the season were sold during the Linen postcard era. Men wore hats, colorful ties and had suits made to fit. Imagine a nice stylish suit for the GOLF COURSE. The postcards reflecting men's fashions are limited but very well designed when found. Straw and Panama hats are the most common, yet, very desirable. The idea of wearing a two piece suit with a red tie and matching handkerchief seems silly to us today as the proper golf attire but Wellworth's Spring line included such an outfit. "There's definitely a feeling of real comfort in a garment "Custom Made" to your individual measure and instruction. Tailored clothes cost no more……."

The term Haberdashery had been lost in the sea of unforgettable words, but it is prevalent on the Linen era men's clothing postcards. Cravats have been replaced with necktie and straw hats have been replaced with baseball hats as the sun screen of choice. It however is a joy to look at the postcards that feature men and women when they fully dressed before leaving the house.

Postcards of this style sell for $15-35 each
